Chairman's Reserve 1931 combines two raw materials and different distillation methods in one blend: 90% is molasses rum and 10% is rum made from fresh sugarcane juice. The sugarcane grows at St. Lucia Distillers on Saint Lucia, and the rum made from it is distilled in a pot still. Overall, the distillates come from one Coffey column still and three copper pot stills. The rums used mature for seven to twelve years in bourbon casks.

The name commemorates Denis Barnard, who founded his family's distillery in 1931 and experimented with different molasses fermentations and their distillates. Combining different rums carries this history forward. Alongside the pronounced raisin and wood notes, the sugarcane juice distillate contributes a subtle grassy, aromatic sweetness to the blend.

This 2025 bottling contains 0.7 litres of rum at 46% alcohol. It is supplied without gift packaging.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Intense raisin aromas sit alongside toasted oak on the nose. Leather, spices and tobacco add further notes.
• Palate: Sultanas shape the flavour on the palate, accompanied by subtle notes of crème caramel and buttery oak.
• Finish: The long finish begins with sweet raisins before becoming dry and tannic.

Distillery/Bottler:

St. Lucia Distillers operates in the Roseau Valley on Saint Lucia. The present site dates back to the Barnard family's merger with Geest in 1972, when the Barnards moved their production from Dennery to Roseau. After sugar production on the island ceased, molasses from Guyana became an important raw material. It reaches the distillery via Roseau Bay and is pumped into storage tanks there.

The distillery's production methods include controlled fermentation, with the final fermentation stage taking place in open vessels, and distillation in different types of still. For Chairman's Reserve, the subsequent blending of the distillates plays a central role. Laurie Barnard, Denis Barnard's grandson, founded the brand in 1999, continuing his family's blending tradition.
