Chichibu 2016 - Heavily Peated 1st Fill Bourbon Barrel #6179 - Foundations

Special features: This single malt comes from a heavily peated, first-fill bourbon cask (#6179) and was distilled in 2016. With only 161 bottles produced, it is one of the limited-edition rarities from the young Chichibu distillery. The high alcohol strength of 63.7% and the absence of chill filtration and coloring give the whisky a particularly authentic and powerful character.

Tasting Notes:

  • Nose: Smoky peat aromas combined with fruity notes and a hint of vanilla.
  • Palate: Intense and complex with strong smokiness, spicy nuances and a subtle sweetness.
  • Finish: Long lasting, dry and smoky with a pleasant warmth.

Distillery/Bottler: The Chichibu Distillery was founded in Saitama Prefecture in 2008 and quickly established a reputation for innovative and high-quality Japanese whiskies. Founded by Ichiro Akuto, who comes from a long-established distillery family, Chichibu combines modern techniques with artisanal craftsmanship. The distillery places great emphasis on local raw materials and careful cask selection, which is impressively reflected in this limited-edition bottling.
