Chopin Rye Vodka

Volume: 0.7 litres | Alcohol content: 40% | Colouring: No

Special Features:

Rye is the sole agricultural raw material used in Chopin Rye. Together with water and yeast, it forms the basis of this Polish vodka. Four distillations take place in the distillery’s traditional copper column. No additives or flavourings are used, leaving the spicy character of rye as its defining feature.

Its peppery character lends itself to drinking neat, mixing into a Bloody Mary or providing a spicy counterpoint in sweeter cocktails. The bottle contains 0.7 litres at an alcohol content of 40%.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Delicate rye bread notes meet black pepper, eucalyptus, mint and caraway.
• Palate: The vodka feels silky and medium-bodied on the palate. Savoury rye spice and lively notes of crushed black pepper shape the flavour.
• Finish: The finish is short and fresh, with lingering crushed black pepper and gentle rye spice.

Distillery/Bottler:

The Chopin distillery is near Krzesk in eastern Poland and has been making vodka since 1896. The Dorda family took over the business in 2003, restored the historic buildings and modernised the bottling and packaging facilities. A copper column from the 19th century remains part of the distillery’s equipment.

Chopin works with local farmers and oversees production from growing the raw materials through to distillation and bottling at its own premises. The ingredients come from within a radius of around 32 kilometres, while the water is drawn from an artesian spring beneath the distillery grounds. Potatoes, rye and wheat are used to make separate vodkas, deliberately retaining the distinctive character of each raw material.
