Special Features:

This Clarendon belongs to Magnum Series #2, which pairs selected rums with photographs by Alex Webb. It carries the MBS marque, was distilled in 2014 and was bottled ten years later, in 2024, at 60%. At Clarendon, MBS denotes a comparatively restrained ester range of 10 to 60 grams per hectolitre of pure alcohol. The bottle contains 0.7 litres and comes in gift packaging. Its label features a photograph Webb took in Trinidad in 2005.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Apricot, creamy coconut notes and smooth vanilla initially lead the nose. Iris, broom and geranium soon emerge, together with honey and medicinal balsamic notes. With air, cardamom and ginger unfold, accompanied by a subtle hint of liquorice.
• Palate: The palate reveals pineapple and ripe banana, along with delicate, fibrous tannins reminiscent of sugar cane. Gradually, candied lemon and grapefruit provide a lively contrast with their tart freshness.
• Finish: The long finish opens with delicate liquorice spice and recalls rye whiskey. A pleasantly rooty gentian bitterness stimulates salivation before praline and tobacco linger. Exhaling through the nose brings an impression of cane sugar that is still warm.

Distillery/Bottler:

Clarendon Distillers is located in Monymusk near Lionel Town, in Jamaica's Clarendon Parish. The distillery was originally linked to the Monymusk Sugar Factory; National Rums of Jamaica took over its operation in 1980. Today, the company holds a 73% stake in Clarendon Distillers. With a triple-column installation and two double-retort pot stills, the distillery can produce both light rums and heavy, ester-rich rums.

Italian bottler Velier began working with Magnum Photos in 2021. Following the first edition with images by Elliott Erwitt, the second series is dedicated to Alex Webb, who has been with the photographic agency since 1979. Alongside Clarendon, it includes rums from Hampden, Saint James and Beenleigh. Velier released the ten-year-old Clarendon in bottles of 0.7 and 1.5 litres.
