For this collaboration with Crossroads Ales & Lagers from Peiting, bourbon-cask-matured single malt spent a further 18 months in two Imperial Stout casks. The idea emerged during a conversation between Mareike Spitzer and Michael Graves at a beer festival: a stout previously aged in a German whisky cask inspired them to send two beer casks to Ireland.

The edition comprises 714 bottles. The whiskey was bottled at a cask strength of 57.2%, without chill filtration or added colouring.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, malt and grapefruit meet dark chocolate, cloves and marzipan.
• Palate: On the palate, citrus notes and cocoa nibs combine with malt, toasted wood and spice.
• Finish: Dark chocolate and notes of light-coloured fruit linger in the long finish.

Distillery/Bottler:

Clonakilty is in West Cork, in the southwest of Ireland. The distillery in the town centre began production in spring 2019. Its owners, the Scully family, have farmed barley fields on the Atlantic coast for eight generations.

The business also has a warehouse on the cliffs outside the town. Clonakilty uses it to finish purchased whiskeys, creating releases with a variety of cask finishes. The Crossroads collaboration combines this work with beer casks from a Bavarian brewery.
