The Compass Box Core Range Mini Collection brings together Orchard House, Nectarosity, Crimson Casks and The Peat Monster in a gift box. Each miniature contains 0.05 litres and is bottled at 46%, giving the set a total volume of 0.2 litres. Orchard House, Crimson Casks and The Peat Monster are Blended Malt Scotch Whiskies, while Nectarosity is a Blended Scotch containing both Malt and Grain Whisky. All four whiskies retain their natural colour and are non-chill filtered.

Orchard House represents the collection’s bright, fruit-forward side: apple and pear lead into pineapple, lemon and lime peel and Earl Grey, followed by malt, ginger, honey, wild strawberry and vanilla pastries. For Nectarosity, Compass Box uses specially made new American oak casks twice, first for a Grain component and then for Malt Whisky. Together with first-fill bourbon casks, they shape a profile of honey, poached pear, nectarine, lychee, apricot and pineapple, followed by toffee, vanilla, butterscotch and cinnamon bun.

Crimson Casks places the influence of sherry and red wine casks at the centre of its profile. Chocolate cake, clove and cardamom combine with plum preserve and redcurrant; cherry, toffee and oak follow before raisins, honey and brown sugar round out the impression. The Peat Monster combines Islay malts with varying degrees of peat character. Sweet smoke comes to the fore, while more powerful medicinal peat, sea breeze, spiced apple, vanilla cream and floral nuances add further depth.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Nectarosity reveals honey, poached pear, nectarine and lychee. Crimson Casks has an intense aroma of flowers, vanilla and rich fruit, with further accents of orange peel, baked orange and grilled peach.
• Palate: Nectarosity brings juicy apricot and fresh pineapple to the palate. Crimson Casks is creamy and almost syrupy, with chocolate cake, clove, cardamom, plum preserve, redcurrant, cherry, toffee and oak.
• Finish: Nectarosity has a long finish of toffee, vanilla, butterscotch and cinnamon bun. Crimson Casks leaves red berries, blackcurrant preserve, raisins, honey, brown sugar and oak lingering for a long time.

Distillery/Bottler:

Compass Box is not a distillery but a whisky house founded in 2000, with its own blending room in Richmond, London. The company brings together recipe development, cask selection, maturation and blending in a flavour-led approach. It deliberately composes whiskies from different distilleries rather than simply offering bottlings from a single distillery.

The four whiskies belong to the current Compass Box core range. James Saxon is the lead whiskymaker for Nectarosity and Crimson Casks and has also explained the production decisions behind Orchard House for Compass Box; John Glaser is the lead whiskymaker for The Peat Monster.
