Special Features:

Connemara combines Irish single malt with the smoke of barley malt dried over peat fires. The twelve-year-old expression matures almost entirely in former bourbon casks. With longer maturation, the peat smoke recedes slightly, giving the influence of the wood more room.

The whiskey is bottled at 40% in a green 0.7-litre bottle and presented in a tube. Celtic knots and a landscape illustration feature in the packaging design.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose reveals lively notes of crème brûlée, singed flowers and bold spices. A scent of Provençal herbal soap adds to the bouquet.
• Palate: The whiskey opens round and supple on the palate. Its rather dry, medium-to-full body carries praline notes, vanilla and exotic pepper spice.
• Finish: The very long finish develops honey-sweet cereal notes and grassy impressions.

Distillery/Bottler:

Cooley Distillery lies in County Louth in north-eastern Ireland. John Teeling founded it in 1987 as an independent distillery. Cooley produces both grain whiskey and double-distilled single malt, making whiskey for other bottlers as well as its own brands. Connemara and Tyrconnell are among its single malt brands.

For Connemara, the distillery draws on a historical practice: drying barley malt over peat fires was already common in the 18th century. This choice gives the whiskey its peaty aroma and flavour, combining smoke with sweet malt notes.
