Special Features:

Connemara brings together the Irish single malt tradition and the smoke of barley malt dried over peat fires. Its production draws on a historical method already used in the 18th century. The whiskey is double-distilled and matures in American oak ex-bourbon casks. Its character combines smoky and vegetal peat notes with sweet malt, honey and gentle spice.

This official bottling has an alcohol content of 40% and comes in a 0.7-litre bottle with a gift tube.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Sweet barley aromas meet peat smoke and a hint of smoked herring. There is also the aroma of a well-baked apple crumble, with its fruity filling and baked crumble topping.
• Palate: The palate reveals a gentle honey sweetness. The smoke is restrained and clean rather than sooty; vegetal peat notes accompany sweet barley water. Gentle spice, oak and vanilla round out the flavour.
• Finish: The medium-length finish leaves vanilla and oak, with a little lingering peat smoke.

Distillery/Bottler:

Connemara is produced at Cooley Distillery on the Cooley Peninsula in County Louth. John Teeling founded the distillery in 1987 by converting a former potato alcohol plant. Cooley brings together two production methods at one site: pot stills are used to make malt whiskey, while grain whiskey is distilled in columns. For Connemara, the distillery uses double distillation and peated malt—a combination that shapes its smoky style within the Irish whiskey range.
