Special Features:

The peated Croftengea single malt from Loch Lomond Distillery was finished for several months in Kentucky ex-bourbon casks for Murray McDavid’s Cask Craft Batch 3. Their creamy vanilla, caramel and tropical fruit notes provide a sweet counterpoint to the pronounced peat smoke. Batch BBN-03 was bottled in 2023 at 44.5%; the whisky retains its natural colour and is non-chill filtered.

Fresh fruit, stone fruit and creamy cereal notes complement vanilla, caramel and sweet spice. The flavour profile also features grilled pineapple and banana, malted barley, honey and roasted hazelnuts, while the peat smoke remains present throughout.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, peat smoke and smoked wood meet caramel and grilled pineapple, with a light medicinal nuance accompanying the fruit.
• Palate: The whisky feels slightly oily on the palate; grilled pineapple and banana combine with vanilla, malted barley and hints of honey and smoke.
• Finish: The finish has good length, bringing cinnamon, caramel, roasted hazelnuts, a little malted barley and warm, aromatic peat smoke.

Distillery/Bottler:

Loch Lomond produces Croftengea as a peated Highland single malt. The distillery uses both straight-neck pot stills and traditional swan-neck pot stills. Different spirit cuts, together with peated and unpeated barley, enable it to create eight distinct single malt styles; a 92-hour fermentation contributes to the malts’ underlying fruity character.

Independent bottler Murray McDavid handles the additional maturation. The Cask Craft Collection focuses on the influence of different cask types on Scottish single malts. The company stores and manages selected casks in the Victorian dunnage warehouses of the closed Coleburn Distillery in Speyside.
