Cutty Sark Original is a pale, approachable Blended Scotch made from malt and grain whiskies. The malts come mainly from Speyside and shape its fruity character. Maturation takes place in American oak casks, with a proportion of ex-sherry casks being used for whisky maturation for the first time. The American oak contributes vanilla and oak notes, while the sherry casks add subtle spice and dried-fruit aromas. The malt whiskies are married over 21 days. The blend is then gently chill-filtered and bottled at 40%.

Vanilla meets citrus and floral notes. Subtle oak and spice notes complement the light, smooth style. The individual whiskies initially mature separately before being brought together in the blend. Cutty Sark Original is also suitable for cocktails and long drinks.

Distillery/Bottler:

Berry Bros. & Rudd developed Cutty Sark in London in 1923 with the aim of creating a lighter blended whisky. Francis Berry, Hugh Rudd and the Scottish artist James McBey were involved in its creation. The famous tea clipper gave the whisky its name and became the image on its label. The label's yellow colour originally resulted from a printing error: the paper appeared bright yellow rather than cream.

Since late 2018, the brand has belonged to the family-run French group La Martiniquaise-Bardinet. Master Blender Stephen Woodcock is responsible for the blend's distinctive style. The whisky is blended and bottled at the Starlaw site in Scotland, which brings together grain distillation, cask storage and bottling in one location. Cutty Sark is therefore a Blended Scotch brand rather than an individual distillery bearing that name.
