Special Features:

A finish in a first-fill Pedro Ximénez sherry quarter cask shapes this 13-year-old Dalrymple release from The WhiskyHeroes series. It comes from cask 2321601/2012 and belongs to the series’ third edition. Brave New Spirits bottled the whisky at 57.9%, yielding 170 bottles for an exclusive German release. It is not chill-filtered and contains no added colouring.

Whisky from Ailsa Bay Distillery forms the main component. Teaspooning nevertheless makes the release a blended malt. The PX finish and high alcohol strength accompany a profile of dark fruit, cocoa, mocha, nuts and spice.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose brings dates and plum preserve alongside dark chocolate, caramel and toffee. Oak, cinnamon and nutmeg complement the sweet notes.
• Palate: On the palate, dried fruit and maple syrup combine with mocha, roasted hazelnuts and liquorice. PX sherry sweetness and light tannins follow.
• Finish: The long, layered finish shows dark cocoa, ripe cherries, a little tobacco and a delicate leather note.

Distillery/Bottler:

The main component comes from Ailsa Bay Distillery at William Grant & Sons’ Girvan site in the Scottish Lowlands. Independent bottler Brave New Spirits selected and released The Quiet Blade.

For The WhiskyHeroes, Brave New Spirits selects both single casks and small batches. The series also includes teaspooned blended malts and releases for individual markets; distinctive illustrations give each edition its own look.
