Maturation in former bourbon casks shapes this fifteen-year-old Highland Single Malt. Dalwhinnie 15 uses American oak bourbon casks that have previously held maturing whisky. Part of the Classic Malts range, it combines a soft, honey-led palate with a long finish that becomes increasingly smoky and malty.

This official bottling has an alcohol content of 43% and comes in a bottle containing 0.7 litres, with gift packaging. The whisky can be enjoyed neat or with a little still water.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose is expressive, clear and dry. Heather and a hint of peat complete the aromatic picture.
• Palate: The whisky is soft and smooth on the palate, with lingering heather-honey sweetness and vanilla. More pronounced citrus notes follow, along with a trace of malt bread. The body is light to medium.
• Finish: The finish is long and surprisingly intense. It begins sweetly before smoke, peat and malt come to the fore.

Distillery/Bottler:

Dalwhinnie stands in the village of the same name in Inverness-shire, in the heart of the Cairngorms National Park. Founded in 1897, it is one of Scotland’s highest-altitude whisky distilleries. Its name derives from the Gaelic term for a meeting place.

The distillery uses wooden washbacks and two steam-heated pot stills. A distinctive feature is its outdoor worm tubs: these wooden vessels contain cold water and coiled pipes in which the alcohol vapours condense back into liquid. The conspicuous tubs stand in front of the production buildings and, together with the pagoda roofs, are among the site’s characteristic features.
