Special Features:

This 15-year-old Deanston first matured for 13 years in traditional oak hogsheads. For its final two years, the whisky was transferred to selected casks that had previously held agave tequila from the highlands of Jalisco in Mexico. The finish therefore forms part of its total maturation of 15 years. This bottling belongs to the distillery’s limited experimental editions.

Bottled at 52.5%, without added colouring or chill filtration, this whisky combines tropical fruit and creamy sweetness with toasted almonds and baked apple. Fruity and floral influences from the tequila casks complement Deanston’s waxy, citrus-led character. Despite its sweet aromas, the whisky is full-bodied and dry on the palate.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose is fresh, with ripe pineapple, crème brûlée and mixed nuts, accompanied by a light oak note.
• Palate: The whisky is full-bodied yet dry on the palate. Caramelised agave, toasted almonds and baked apple with vanilla cream mingle with warming spice notes.
• Finish: The long finish brings brown spices and sweet citrus notes.

Distillery/Bottler:

This Single Malt comes from Deanston Distillery on the River Teith and is an official distillery bottling. Deanston was established in 1966 by converting a former cotton mill whose history dates back to 1785. Whisky merchant Brodie Hepburn recognised the potential of the site, with its river water, existing hydropower and spacious buildings.

The distillery uses water from the River Teith and Scottish barley, which it mills itself and checks by hand. Its production methods include an open mash tun, fermentation times of up to 100 hours and manually determined cut points during distillation in copper pot stills. The former weaving halls now serve as cask warehouses. Its own hydropower supplies its electricity needs, with surplus electricity fed into the public grid.
