Special Features:

Lúnasa brings together two bourbon cask influences: this triple-distilled Irish single malt first matured in first-fill bourbon casks before receiving a finish in bourbon casks from Brooklyn’s Widow Jane. This combination emphasises vanilla, toffee and sweet fruit notes. Dingle bottled the whiskey at 50.5%, without chill filtration or added colouring.

The fourth release in the nine-part Wheel of the Year series celebrates Lúnasa, the Irish festival marking the start of the harvest season in August. The series draws on festivals, seasons and solstices, concluding with a ninth edition dedicated to Wren’s Day, a tradition with particularly strong roots in Dingle. Lúnasa was released on 1 August 2023 in a limited edition of 10,000 bottles.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, ripe red berries mingle with warm salted caramel, lemon sherbet and creamy butter fudge.
• Palate: Barley sugar sweetness leads on the palate, accompanied by a delicate spice note and hints of dark chocolate and raspberries.
• Finish: Ginger and spices bring lingering warmth to the finish. As they slowly fade, dark fruit notes and caramel remain.

Distillery/Bottler:

The independent Dingle Whiskey Distillery is located in the coastal town of the same name in County Kerry, in south-western Ireland. Oliver Hughes, Liam LaHart and Peter Mosley founded it in 2012 after working in the Irish craft beer scene. Their approach centres on small production volumes and individually monitored maturation.

Graham Coull took charge of distillation and the distillery in 2019. The small scale of production allows the team to closely oversee individual stages of the process and remain flexible in its cask selection. The Wheel of the Year series uses different finishes to highlight various facets of Dingle whiskey. Lúnasa is an official distillery bottling.
