Special Features:

A brief rest in American oak distinguishes El Tequileño Platinum: although it is a blanco, it spends 14 days in large oak casks before bottling. This treatment rounds out its flavour without overshadowing the agave character. Cooked agave is accompanied by light honey, fruit and gentle spice.

It is made exclusively from blue Weber agaves grown on the producer's own plantations in the Jalisco highlands. Mineral-rich spring water from the Volcán de Tequila is also used, and distillation takes place in copper pot stills. Platinum is produced without colouring or chill filtration. The bottle contains 0.7 litres at 40% alcohol.

It can be enjoyed neat or over ice and also works well in a Margarita.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, cooked agave and herbs combine with subtle hints of anise and black pepper. Citrus notes and vanilla complement the aroma.
• Palate: The palate has a gentle heat with savoury accents. Cooked agave and green herbs define the flavour.
• Finish: The long finish is delicate, combining light honey with white pepper.

Distillery/Bottler:

Don Jorge Salles Cuervo founded El Tequileño on New Year's Day in 1959 in the town of Tequila in the Mexican state of Jalisco. The brand's name honours the people of the town. El Tequileño is produced exclusively at the La Guarreña distillery. Jorge Antonio Salles represents the third generation of the family to continue its distilling tradition.

Before cooking, the distillery removes the agaves' bitter inner shoot, known as the cogollo. The agaves are then cooked in pressurised steam autoclaves. During milling, volcanic spring water helps extract the sugar from the cooked plants. The juice ferments in open concrete vats, with the surrounding old mango trees influencing the natural fermentation environment. The distillery uses only copper pot stills for distillation.
