Special Features:

El Tequileño Blanco rests in American oak for fourteen days. It is made from blue Weber agave from Los Altos de Jalisco and sugar derived from sugar cane. This makes it a mixto tequila rather than one made exclusively from agave.

The Blanco is bottled without chill filtration or added colouring. This version has an alcohol content of 38% and comes in a bottle containing 0.5 litres.

The Batanga cocktail from La Capilla bar in Tequila is part of this tequila’s history. It combines El Tequileño Blanco with Mexican cola and lime in a tall glass with a salted rim. Its sweet, spicy agave character also provides a fitting base for a grilled pineapple Margarita.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, cooked agave and herbs meet delicate notes of anise and black pepper.
• Palate: Sweet cooked agave emerges on the palate, accompanied by hints of butterscotch, anise and peppercorns.
• Finish: The finish combines liquorice sweetness with the spice of black pepper.

Distillery/Bottler:

Don Jorge Salles Cuervo founded El Tequileño in 1959. The brand’s tequila is produced at La Guarreña distillery in the town of Tequila, Jalisco. His grandson Jorge Antonio “Tony” Salles joined the company in 2005 and took over the management of the distillery and the role of Master Distiller in 2008. El Tequileño has belonged to Paradise Spirits since 2017.

The distillery cooks its agave with pressurised steam in autoclaves, first removing the bitter inner shoot known as the cogollo. Mineral-rich spring water from the extinct Volcán de Tequila is used to extract the agave juice. Fermentation takes place in open concrete tanks, and distillation is carried out exclusively in copper stills. Organic production residues are turned into fertiliser for agave cultivation at the distillery’s own composting site.
