Special features: This powerful single malt whisky from the Harz region is bottled at 57.1% ABV and matured in Amarone hogsheads and Marsala casks, giving it a complex aroma. The bottling was done in a limited edition of 1,220 bottles, corresponding to the year of the coronation of Frederick II.
Tasting Notes:
- Nose: Intense peat smoke notes combine with fruity aromas of cherries, plums, and grapes, accompanied by a hint of orange zest.
- Palate: Full-bodied and complex, with hints of dried fruit, dark chocolate, and mild coffee notes that unfold harmoniously.
- Finish: Long and warming, with a sweet note of "sticky toffee" that skillfully rounds off the smoky character.
Distillery/Bottler: The Hercynian Distilling Co., formerly known as Hammerschmiede, is located in the picturesque Zorge in the Harz region. Since 2002, the family-owned company, led by Anna Katharina Buchholz, has been producing handcrafted single malt whisky. The distillery places great importance on regional ingredients and traditional manufacturing processes, with all steps from bottling to labeling done by hand.
