For the first issue of Journal des Kirsch, L'Encantada selected an Armagnac from Domaine Lous Mouracs. The 1996 vintage matured for 27 years and was bottled in 2023 as a single-cask release at its cask strength of 52.7%. The release comprises 264 bottles of 0.7 litres each.

The Armagnac was bottled without chill filtration or added colouring. Its beige label features a historical illustration and identifies the release as number 1 in the series.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose initially recalls rum. Apple and milky coffee open the aromatic profile, accompanied by pronounced wood and a slight alcoholic prickle. Hazelnuts, almonds, bread and bell pepper add further dimensions. Later, hints of nougat, mint and anise emerge alongside a lightly metallic note.
• Palate: The Armagnac feels powerful and somewhat rough on the palate. Almonds and pear combine with hints of herbal extracts, joined by mineral notes, walnuts, wood and pepper.
• Finish: Wood, herbs and pepper remain present in the medium-length finish.

Distillery/Bottler:

The small Domaine Lous Mouracs estate lies in the Ténarèze appellation. Its soils, however, more closely resemble those of Bas-Armagnac than those typical of Ténarèze. The estate's Gascon name refers to its damp location.

Based in Vic-Fezensac, L'Encantada is an independent Armagnac merchant and maturer working with small producers across different terroirs. The house selects individual casks and oversees their further maturation in its own cellars. The cellar master decides when an Armagnac is ready to be bottled. For this vintage, Domaine Lous Mouracs produced the spirit, while L'Encantada was responsible for its selection and bottling.
