Special Features:

A First Fill Oloroso Sherry Hogshead shapes this single cask bottling from FRC. The molasses rum was distilled in a pot still at Hampden Estate in October 2018 and bottled in May 2024 after five years, at a cask strength of 67.5%. The cask yielded 311 bottles. The rum contains neither added sugar nor colouring.

At Hampden, LROK denotes a marque with 200 to 400 grams of esters per hectolitre of pure alcohol. This edition is dedicated to the orca, which also appears on the label. It belongs to a series of single cask rums developed jointly with Sea Shepherd and Kirsch Import, with sales supporting Sea Shepherd's marine conservation work.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Caramelised bananas lead on the nose, followed by vanilla and roasted pineapple. There are possible hints of red berries and sultanas, alongside the tangy side of Oloroso. Rubber, black olives and glue complement the fruit aromas, with the sherry influence integrating well.
• Palate: Flambéed bananas and mango sweets stand out on the palate. The sherry influence softens the distinctive Hampden character somewhat. Liquorice, powerful ester flavours and a little wood follow. Towards the end, the bitter note of pink grapefruit emerges, along with impressions of pickled cucumbers.
• Finish: The long finish becomes more bitter and reveals salty and resinous notes. It now feels more austere, while the sherry influence recedes slightly.

Distillery/Bottler:

Hampden Estate is located in Jamaica's Trelawny region. Sugar production on the estate dates back to 1753, while pot still rum has been produced there since 1756. Long fermentation in open wooden vats is a distinctive part of its production. The distillery also uses dunder, the residue from previous distillations. This approach contributes to the formation of the ester aromas for which Hampden is known. The distillery produces different marques, each with its own ester profile.

FRC, originally Flensburg Rum Company, is a brand of Oldman Spirits GmbH from Schleswig-Holstein. Thomas Altmann founded FRC in 2014. Alongside rum blends, the producer focuses on rare single casks; bottling and labelling are carried out by hand. For the Sea Shepherd series, FRC works with the marine conservation organisation and Kirsch Import.
