Special Features:

This Select Grain bottling combines maturation in bourbon hogsheads with a finish in three different cask types. Murray McDavid selected Oloroso sherry casks from Spain, Madeira wine casks from Portugal and bourbon casks from the American Koval Distillery. The fruity influences of the two wine cask types complement the creamy character contributed by the bourbon casks.

The whisky was distilled at Girvan in 2007 and bottled in autumn 2023 after 16 years at 50% alcohol. The limited release comprises 1,100 bottles. It is not smoky and is bottled without added colouring or chill filtration.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose recalls mocha ice cream, fresh fruit and nut brittle. Sweet liquorice and baking spices add further aromas.
• Palate: The whisky feels creamy and oily on the palate. Ripe fruit, liquorice root and vanilla mingle with light leather and freshly brewed coffee.
• Finish: The long finish lingers across the palate. Caramelised nuts and woodland berries are accompanied by floral caramel notes and a touch of jasmine.

Distillery/Bottler:

Built in 1963, Girvan Distillery is located in the Scottish Lowlands and produces grain whisky. Wheat was the main grain used for this Single Grain. It yields a rich, creamy spirit whose character Murray McDavid further develops through its choice of maturation casks.

Murray McDavid was founded in 1994 by London wine merchants Mark Reynier and Simon Coughlin, together with Gordon Wright of Springbank. Their wine expertise informed their cask selection, with wine cask maturation becoming a particular focus of the independent bottler. In 2000, the team joined Jim McEwan in reopening Bruichladdich on Islay. Today, Murray McDavid is based at Coleburn Distillery in Speyside.
