Special Features:

This eleven-year-old single-cask Glen Elgin matured in a Pedro Ximénez sherry hogshead and was bottled at a cask strength of 59.4%. The cask yielded 386 bottles.

Juicy orchard fruit and berries meet melon, orange and malt. Caramel, candied walnuts, tropical fruit and chocolate combine with ginger, clove and oak.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose opens rich and fruity with juicy orchard fruit, honeydew melon and dark berries. Bold oak, orange peel and rich malt emerge alongside a hint of Parma ham, followed by sweeter impressions of syrupy porridge, madeleines, blueberry muffins and chocolate-covered malt biscuits.
• Palate: On the palate, the whisky is powerful, rich, sweet and spicy. Creamy vanilla combines with warming clove and ginger, while bold malt, baked apple, flowing caramel and earthy candied walnuts join in. A pronounced distillate character brings further tropical fruit.
• Finish: The long, warm finish begins with fruitcake and sticky toffee pudding. It is dense and weighty, with creamy malt, tingling spices, bold oak, melted chocolate and juicy fruit lingering.

Distillery/Bottler:

Glen Elgin was completed in 1898 and was the last distillery established in Speyside during the boom of that period. Today, it operates six stills and traditional worm-tub condensers. The alcohol vapour passes through long, coiled copper pipes immersed in cold water; this design can encourage a weightier, more robust distillate character.
