Volume: 0.7 litres | Alcohol content: 51.1% | Chill filtration: No | Colouring: No
Special Features:
This exceptionally long-matured Glen Grant spent its entire maturation in refill Sherry hogshead no. 3740. The whisky was distilled on 6 June 1966, laid down to mature by “Mr George” Urquhart and bottled on 22 October 2025 after 59 years.
The limited Year of the Fire Horse edition connects the 1966 vintage with the Chinese Year of the Fire Horse in 2026, the first since 1966. The single cask yielded just 88 bottles, presented in a red premium box featuring a horse motif.
Gordon & MacPhail bottled the single malt at a cask strength of 51.1%. The whisky is non-chill-filtered and contains no added colouring.
Tasting Notes:
- Nose: On the nose, vanilla cream and roasted hazelnuts combine with a distinct cinnamon spice.
- Palate: On the palate, cocoa and rich sultanas are followed by lively autumnal spices.
- Finish: The medium body develops into a long finish with lingering mixed nuts and citrus peel.
Distillery/Bottler:
The Glen Grant Distillery was founded in Rothes, Speyside, in 1840 by the brothers John and James Grant. James “The Major” Grant took over the business in 1872, expanded the distillery and introduced tall, slender stills together with water-cooled purifiers. This design contributes to the spirit’s light, floral underlying character.
Gordon & MacPhail was founded in Elgin in 1895 and developed over four generations into a specialist in maturing Scotch whisky. The family business had new make from numerous Scottish distilleries filled into carefully selected casks and oversaw its maturation for many years. For this bottling, George Urquhart laid down the Glen Grant in cask no. 3740 in 1966; the whisky was not bottled under the Gordon & MacPhail name until 59 years later.
