Glen Moray Heritage 18 matures entirely in American oak. First-fill ex-bourbon casks shape its vanilla, toffee and oak character. First fill means that a cask previously used for bourbon is filled with Scotch for the first time; it does not mean the oak is new. Caramelised autumn fruit and spiced apple complement the sweet oak notes. The whisky is bottled at 47.2% without chill filtration.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose brings together toasted oak, toffee with dark sugar syrup, and caramelised autumn fruit.
• Palate: Baked spiced apple and raisins meet vanilla and a hint of smoke on the palate. The whisky feels rich and smooth.
• Finish: On the long finish, sweetness and spice gradually fade, leaving a light smoky note and toasted oak.

Distillery/Bottler:

Glen Moray Distillery is in Elgin, Speyside. It was established in 1897 on the site of the Elgin West Brewery; even its first whisky was matured in different types of cask. The distillery later continued working with different woods through cask finishes. It has belonged to the La Martiniquaise group since 2008.

Introduced in 2016, the Heritage Collection includes longer-matured single malts, among them this 18-year-old distillery bottling. Glen Moray uses bourbon casks from a single distillery in Kentucky for it. Selecting these casks is part of the distillery’s approach to shaping the character of its whiskies.
