Distilled on 4 November 2015, this ten-year-old Glen Spey was finished in a small Pedro Ximénez sherry octave. Duncan Taylor bottled the whisky from cask no. 11052464 on 21 July 2026, with a yield of 92 bottles.

An octave has a large internal wood surface relative to its volume. The resulting increase in contact between the whisky and the cask shapes this final maturation: Glen Spey’s fruity, malty foundation gains concentrated notes of raisins, dark sugar syrup, chocolate and spicy wood.

This non-smoky Speyside single malt was bottled at its natural cask strength of 53.9%. It contains no added colouring, is non-chill-filtered and comes without additional packaging in a 0.7-litre bottle.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose combines ripe apple and pear with sweet dried fruit, caramel and dark chocolate. A light citrus note, malty depth and delicate spice complete the aroma.
• Palate: The whisky is sweet and full-bodied on the palate. Raisins, dark sugar syrup and toffee meet dark chocolate and cocoa, while spicy accents and a subtle woody note lend structure to the robust body.
• Finish: The medium-length, balanced finish combines dried and dark fruits with a light nutty nuance. Pronounced oak, spices and a hint of chocolate remain present as the sweetness slowly fades.

Distillery/Bottler:

Glen Spey stands in Rothes, in the heart of Speyside. James Stuart established the distillery in a disused mill in 1878 and initially named it Mill of Rothes. After its sale to W&A Gilbey, it was renamed Glen Spey in 1887. Official distillery bottlings are rare, so its light, nutty and floral style is most often encountered through independent bottlers.

Duncan Taylor began operating in Glasgow in 1938 as a cask merchant and independent whisky specialist. The company is now based in Huntly, where it has facilities for cask storage, cooperage and bottling. For The Octave series, the bottler selects mature whiskies for an additional period of maturation in small casks; this bottling was finished in an octave seasoned with Pedro Ximénez sherry.
