The limited Boynsmill House Edition celebrates the founding of The Glendronach 200 years ago and the house where the distillery’s story began. The 14-year-old single malt matured in Pedro Ximénez and Oloroso sherry casks. Master Blender Rachel Barrie also selected whisky from a small number of former Claret red wine casks for the composition. Alongside the rich sherry-cask character, dark fruit, black cherry and gentle spice come through.

This distillery bottling contains 46.8% alcohol and comes in a 0.7-litre bottle with gift packaging. It is not smoky, is not chill-filtered and contains no added colouring.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, sweet toffee, blackberries and stone fruit meet hazelnuts and raisins.
• Palate: On the palate, ripe malt has a soft, full texture. Dried fruit and nuts give way to gentle notes of chocolate and caramel.
• Finish: Blackberries, juicy raisins and stone fruit linger on the finish.

Distillery/Bottler:

The Glendronach was founded in 1826 in the Valley of Forgue in the Scottish Highlands. James Allardice led the group of local farmers who established the distillery. Boynsmill House had stood there since 1771, and this anniversary edition takes its name from it.

The distillery uses fermentation vessels made from Scottish larch and distinctively saxophone-shaped stills. Its casks rest in traditional dunnage warehouses. Under William Teacher & Sons, the number of stills rose from two to four in 1960; in 2005, the distillery switched from coal to steam to heat them.

Sherry casks have shaped the distillery’s work since its beginnings. Its distinctive style brings robust Highland spirit together with Pedro Ximénez and Oloroso sherry casks from Andalusia. Pedro Ximénez casks contribute dark fruit notes and natural colour, while Oloroso casks bring drier, nutty accents. Rachel Barrie has been Master Blender at The Glendronach since 2016 and also selected the combination of casks for this edition.
