Special Features:

Glenfarclas 10 Year Old combines the distillery's sherry cask maturation with a light, malty character. Ten years of maturation develop delicate sherry sweetness and dried fruit notes, accompanied by vanilla and spice. The small bottle contains 0.2 litres, and the whisky is bottled at 40%.

Sherry casks provide more than a final finishing stage here. Glenfarclas matures its age-statement range entirely in sherry casks, using casks that have seen differing numbers of previous fills. This creates different expressions of the house style across the range. The colour remains natural, without added colouring to make it uniform.

Tasting Notes:

  • Nose: Sweet sherry notes meet malt and a subtle spiciness on the nose. Gently warming the glass brings out honey, vanilla and the scent of pear drops.
  • Palate: The whisky feels light on the palate, combining malt with sherry sweetness. Delicate notes of dried fruit and vanilla complement cinnamon and cloves.
  • Finish: The finish lingers, fading softly with spicy notes.

Distillery/Bottler:

Glenfarclas stands at the foot of Ben Rinnes in Scotland's Speyside region. The distillery's spring water also comes from the slopes of this mountain. Its name roughly means “valley of the green grass”. Founded in 1836, the distillery has belonged to the Grant family since 1865 and remains independently run by them.

Glenfarclas uses unpeated malt and distils twice in directly fired pot stills. The distillery retained this method after trials with indirect heating failed to produce the desired house character. Cask selection is also closely connected to the family: John Grant travels to a family-run bodega in Spain to select European oak casks that previously held Oloroso sherry. The whiskies mature in low, traditional dunnage warehouses on the distillery grounds.
