Glenfiddich Cumulative Time combines forty years of maturation with Remnant Vatting: part of the previous batch is retained and married with whisky from the casks selected for the next release. Selected Butts and Hogsheads are used for this bottling. Each new release therefore carries forward characteristics of earlier batches.

Cumulative Time belongs to the Time Re:Imagined collection, which explores different concepts of time through whiskies aged 30, 40 and 50 years. The forty-year-old focuses on the accumulation of character across successive batches. The container and closure are made from Jesmonite. Deep grooves reveal the vein-like structure of this stone-like material, whose individual markings make every piece different. The packaging thus gives tangible form to the bottling’s layering principle.

The whisky has a dark mahogany colour and is offered at 44.6% in a 0.7-litre bottle. Its fruit-led character combines with mature wood notes and restrained smoke.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Dried fruit and ripe black cherries meet dark chocolate and roasted coffee. Subtle hints of wood smoke, polished leather and cloves add further notes.
• Palate: The whisky is full-bodied and silky. Pronounced dried-fruit notes develop into fruitcake, dates, raisins and cooked apples. Dry oak notes then emerge, accompanied by subtle nuances of bitter chocolate and peat.
• Finish: Dried fruit and baking spices linger on the long finish, accompanied by gentle oak notes and a light sweetness.

Distillery/Bottler:

William Grant built Glenfiddich with his family in Dufftown, in Scotland’s Speyside region. Spirit first flowed from its stills on Christmas Day 1887. The distillery remains owned by the Grant family and continues to produce whisky at its original site. For the long-aged whiskies in the Time Re:Imagined collection, the Malt Master monitors their development in cask and makes the selection. This requires balancing the whisky’s character with the increasing influence of oak over the decades.
