Maturation entirely in sherry casks shapes this 18-year-old Glenrothes from the Soleo Collection. A high proportion are first-fill casks, receiving whisky for the first time after their use for sherry. The single malt is bottled at 43% without added colouring. Its character combines fruity pear and sweet vanilla with ginger spice and floral rose water notes.

The name Soleo refers to the traditional drying of grapes in the Andalusian sun for sherry production. Introduced in 2018, the collection marked Glenrothes' shift from vintage bottlings to age statements. The rounded bottle of this edition contains 0.7 litres and comes in gift packaging with a display window.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, orange oil and vanilla pods mingle with pear and almonds.
• Palate: On the palate, sweet pear and vanilla notes meet ginger and rose water.
• Finish: The whisky remains sweet and spicy on the finish, accompanied by a light pepper note.

Distillery/Bottler:

The Glenrothes has been based in Rothes, in the heart of Scotland's Speyside region, since 1879. The distillery uses its own on-site water sources for production and for reducing the alcohol strength. Slow distillation supports the light, fruity style of its spirit.

Cask maintenance in the distillery's own cooperage is also part of its approach: casks are inspected there and repaired when necessary. Oak casks previously used for sherry play a central role in maturation. The Glenrothes whiskies retain their natural cask-derived colour.
