This decanter holds the fifty-year-old blend from the Les Grands Assemblages range. Every Baco Armagnac used is at least five decades old. With stocks of this age, Darroze assesses freshness and balance to decide whether cask maturation should end or continue gently in very old casks low in tannins.

Roasted notes, dark chocolate and leather form its mature core. Dried fruit, candied orange peel and delicate rancio add fruity and spicy impressions. The decanter version contains 0.7 litres at 42% alcohol and comes with gift packaging.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, dried fruit and candied orange peel mingle with old leather, polished oak, wild honey and dark chocolate. Delicate rancio notes round out the bouquet.
• Palate: The initial impression on the palate is exceptionally soft. Prunes, roasted walnuts, espresso, tobacco leaves, baking spices and candied ginger meet subtle tannins and dark caramel.
• Finish: The very long finish unfolds with recurring impressions of dried fruit, dark chocolate, exotic spices and old leather. Oak and a hint of menthol emerge at the end.

Distillery/Bottler:

In 1974, Francis Darroze laid the foundations of the house with three selected casks. His interest in the Armagnacs of Bas-Armagnac had begun in the late 1960s. Today, Marc Darroze runs the family house, whose stocks mature in Roquefort and Labastide-d’Armagnac. Darroze works with around thirty estates and handles the selection, further maturation and bottling of their Armagnacs.

For Les Grands Assemblages, the house blends Armagnacs from different terroirs, vintages and styles. The components are chosen to complement one another, giving each blend a flavour profile and balance that remain consistent over time. The age statement refers to the youngest Armagnac in the blend.
