Special Features:

Gwalarn is Celtic Whisky Distillerie’s first blend. It brings together Scottish and German whisky with the distillery’s peated Kornog from Brittany. Distiller and cellar master Aël Guégan developed the blend with Jean-Sébastien Robicquet, founder of Maison Villevert. Gwalarn matures in oak casks and is slowly brought to drinking strength with water from the distillery’s spring.

Gwalarn takes its name from the Breton word for the north-westerly wind. Cereal, ripe fruit and vanilla shape its aroma, with gentle peat providing a contrast. Fruit remains present on the palate; peat, cereal and salt come together in the full finish.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose brings cereal, ripe fruit and vanilla against a gently peaty background.
• Palate: Gwalarn is lively and fruity on the palate. Vanilla and honey give it a smooth, creamy middle, accompanied by gentle peat.
• Finish: The finish is full and even, with peat and cereal lingering alongside a salty note.

Distillery/Bottler:

Celtic Whisky Distillerie blends and bottles Gwalarn. Its own distillery has operated since 1999 in a former farmstead on the peninsula near Pleubian, on the Breton coast. For the single malts made there, it uses wooden fermenters and two small pot stills. Distillation is slow and direct-fired, and the whisky matures by the sea. Its own whiskies include the heavily peated Kornog, which contributes Gwalarn’s peat character from French production.
