Special features: This limited release from the renowned Magnum Series #3 presents the DOK rum from the Hampden Distillery in its purest form. The DOK style is characterized by an exceptionally high ester content of 1,500 to 1,600 g/hlap, resulting in an intense and complex tasting experience. The collaboration with Spanish photographer Cristina De Middel, a member of Magnum Photos, adds an artistic dimension to this edition. Her photographs, taken during her stay at the Hampden Distillery, adorn the bottle and connect visual art with traditional rum production.
Tasting Notes:
- Nose: A powerful bouquet of aromas of burnt rubber, flambéed bananas, roasted pineapple, vetiver, iris concrete, and camphor. These intense impressions gradually give way to fruity notes of apple and mirabelle, as well as sweet accents of acacia honey, vanilla, and licorice.
- Palate: On the palate, the rum initially presents itself with zesty citrus notes of lemon and grapefruit, accompanied by herbs like cut hay and alfalfa, as well as spicy hints of grated ginger. As it develops, mineral nuances of charcoal and petroleum, along with medicinal notes of tiger balm, emerge before the flavor returns to the origin of the sugarcane.
- Finish: The finish is long and sharp, with a dominant citrus note of lemon that provides lasting freshness.
Distillery/Bottler: The Hampden Distillery, founded around 1750 by Scottish merchant Archibald Sterling, is located in the heart of the Trelawny region in Jamaica. It is known for its traditional production methods, including the use of copper pot stills and a long, natural fermentation without the use of commercial yeasts. These practices lead to rums with a characteristic high ester content and complex flavors.
