Silent Mills 02 – Sandö is the second peated release in the Silent Mills Collection, further developing the character of High Coast Timmer. Around 20% of the whisky matured in 250-litre Oloroso sherry hogsheads, with the remainder aged in 200-litre first-fill bourbon barrels. All components are peated and have a phenol level of 44–45 ppm. Their maturation periods range from 6.01 to 7.69 years, with an average age of 7.35 years.
The Oloroso casks contribute the sweetness of dried fruit and raisins, which combines with the vanilla notes from the bourbon barrels. Peat smoke, lemon zest and pineapple complement this contrast of smoke, fruit and sweetness.
The Silent Mills Collection commemorates the disused sawmills along the Ångermanälven. This release takes its name from the sawmill on Sandö, which was established in 1857 and ceased operating permanently after its third fire in 1918. The diamond-shaped mark once used to identify the timber is echoed on the label and packaging.
The 2020 edition comprises 10,318 bottles. The whisky was bottled at 51%, without added colouring or chill filtration.

High Coast Distillery AB is located in Bjärtrå on the banks of the Ångermanälven. The company was founded in 2007 by a group of whisky-loving friends; the copper stills arrived in 2010, when the first cask was also filled.
Cold water from the river enables efficient condensation of the distillate, while the unheated warehouses follow northern Sweden's pronounced seasonal temperature fluctuations. For its peated spirit, the distillery deliberately adjusts the cut points during distillation so that more of the phenols responsible for the smoky character pass into the new make.
