Howler Head brings together cask-matured Kentucky Straight Bourbon and natural banana flavour. The base whiskey spends at least two years in American white oak barrels with heavily charred interiors. Known as Alligator Char, this treatment corresponds to char level 4. Maturation takes place in traditional wooden warehouses; only afterwards is the bourbon blended with the banana flavour. No colouring is added.

The banana fruitiness combines with bourbon notes of caramel, honey and baking spices. Howler Head can be enjoyed neat or over ice, and also adds a fruity twist to an Old Fashioned or Manhattan. The bottle contains 0.7 litres at 40% alcohol. Its red label features the brand's distinctive monkey motif.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Rich vanilla and fried banana lead the nose. A little cinnamon then emerges, while a subtle note of charred cask wood develops.
• Palate: Ripe, ester-forward banana notes shape the palate. A hint of banana pancakes complements the fruit, accompanied by brown sugar, pepper and toffee.
• Finish: The finish recalls banana chips with a little honey. A subtle oak spiciness lingers at the end.

Distillery/Bottler:

Howler Head was launched nationwide in the USA in 2021. Green River Distilling Co. in Kentucky produces the bourbon for the brand, using its own yeast culture and mineral-rich water filtered through Kentucky limestone. Distillation takes place in a copper Vendome column still.

Green River's history began in 1885 when it was founded by J.W. McCulloch. Following changes of ownership and a long period of inactivity, restoration began in 2014, preserving as much of the historic distillery as possible. Whiskey has been distilled at the original site again since 2016.
