Special Features:

The Madeira barrique finish is central to this bottling from the Cask Craft Collection. For batch MAD-02, Murray McDavid gave the Inchgower single malt additional maturation in Justino’s Madeira wine barriques before bottling it at 44.5%. The 0.7-litre bottle contains chill-filtered whisky with no added colouring.

The finish combines Inchgower’s spicy, malty, nutty and gently maritime distillery character with rich dried fruit and subtle oak spice from the Madeira casks.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose offers bright fruit with gentle acidity, sweet malt, assorted nuts, floral notes and grassy herbs.
• Palate: The whisky opens full-bodied and distinctly spicy on the palate. Dark chocolate, walnuts and fruit muesli with honey are followed by a touch of sea salt, dried fruit and fresh citrus notes.
• Finish: The finish is gentle, combining nuts, dried apricots, oak spice and a little honey with a note of mint.

Distillery/Bottler:

Founded near Buckie in 1871 by Alexander Wilson & Co., Inchgower Distillery stands close to the coast on the edge of Speyside and is now owned by Diageo. Its malt is spicy, substantial and slightly waxy, with malty, nutty and delicately maritime notes. As a large part of its production is used in blends, Inchgower often appears as a single malt through independent bottlings.

Murray McDavid was founded in 1994 by wine merchants Mark Reynier and Simon Coughlin together with Gordon Wright of Springbank. The independent bottler quickly became known for maturation in a variety of casks, particularly high-quality wine casks. Following its involvement in the reopening of Bruichladdich and subsequent changes of ownership, the company became part of Aceo Ltd.; today, Coleburn Distillery in Speyside is its home and the location of its maturation and bottling operations.
