Special features: The Islay Rum Barrel Aged is produced in the first and only rum distillery on the Isle of Islay, The Islay Rum Company. The distillery is located in the lovingly renovated Old Lemonade Factory in Port Ellen and uses renewable energy for production. The rum matures in oak barrels that were previously used for aging heavily peated Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky, giving it a unique smoky note.
Tasting Notes:
- Nose: Light smoke, green bananas with caramel and leather.
- Palate: Sweet vanilla with salty caramel. Further light smoky notes with tropical fruits and a hint of medicine as well as maritime saltiness. Complex and delicious.
- Finish: Full-bodied and long-lasting, reminiscent of a matured spirit.
Distillery/Bottler: The Islay Rum Company was founded in January 2022 and is the first and only rum distillery on the Isle of Islay. Under the leadership of Distiller Ben Inglis, the rum is distilled in a specially designed pot and twin-retort still that allows for a triple distillation process in a single pass. The distillery is located in the renovated Old Lemonade Factory in Port Ellen and produces rum with a unique Scottish twist.
