Special Features:

Since 2025, The Draam has been the name of the Isle of Raasay Distillery’s core expression, first introduced in 2021; its recipe remained unchanged when it was renamed. For this six-cask composition, lightly peated and unpeated spirits initially mature separately in first-fill American rye casks, virgin Chinkapin oak casks and Bordeaux red wine casks. The six components are only married afterwards. The whisky is bottled on Raasay at 46.4%, without chill filtration or added colouring.

The recipe brings together dark fruit, cask spice and smoke. Plum, apple and cherry are joined by blackberry, vanilla and cinnamon; dark caramel and biscuit malt form the sweet, malty core, while mineral peat smoke, black pepper and salted nuts provide a spicy contrast.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose brings together baked plum, red apple and cherry with woodsmoke, vanilla and a cool, flinty minerality.
• Palate: On the palate, mineral peat smoke rests over dark caramel and biscuit malt, while creamy oak and black pepper provide structure.
• Finish: The finish combines delicate smoke, salted nuts and butterscotch with slightly sweet notes of charred oak.

The Isle of Raasay Distillery opened on Raasay in 2017, marking the island’s first legal distillation after centuries of illicit distilling tradition. The distillery is committed to distilling, maturing and bottling its whisky on the island. For The Draam, it keeps the peated and unpeated spirits and the three cask types separate until the final marriage.
