Special Features:

This Jamaica 2016 matured in both tropical and European climates. After four years in Jamaica, the rum spent another year in Europe. It matured in American oak casks and was bottled in 2022 as a five-year-old rum in the Transcontinental Rum Line.

Its base is fermented molasses, distilled in 2016 in Lluidas Vale, Jamaica, in a Double Retort Pot Still. This still design uses two retorts connected downstream of the pot still. The Pure Single Rum comes from a single distillery and was produced exclusively by pot still distillation.

Fruit and spice define its powerful, full-bodied character, complemented by a subtle smoky note. The rum was bottled at 57.18%, without added sugar or colouring and without chill filtration. The 0.7-litre bottle comes in gift packaging.

Tasting Notes:

  • Nose: On the nose, coconut and warm citrus notes meet lush tropical fruit.
  • Palate: The rum is full-bodied and rich on the palate. Banana foam, anise and baking spices define the flavour.
  • Finish: The long finish remains fruity and spicy, with lingering banana foam, anise and baking spices.

Distillery/Bottler:

The rum comes from Worthy Park in Jamaica’s Lluidas Vale. Owned by the Clarke family since 1918, the estate operates its own sugar mill, which supplies molasses for rum production. Following the halt in production in 1962, a new distillery was built in 2005. Its equipment, built by Forsyths in Scotland, features the traditional combination of a pot still and two retorts.

La Maison du Whisky launched the Transcontinental Rum Line in 2016. Its concept draws on the historical journeys of rum casks between their countries of origin and Europe. Details on the labels identify the maturation locations and the time spent in each, making the different maturation conditions clear.

This edition is bottled by La Maison & Velier. Founded in 2017, the joint venture brings together the French company La Maison du Whisky and the Italian company Velier. The Transcontinental Rum Line showcases different raw materials, distillation methods and maturation conditions, illustrating the breadth of rum production.
