Special Features:
Perspective No. 1 opens a series through which Jura explores different perspectives on its fruity, balanced house style. The Perspective range builds on Diurach’s Own, an earlier bottling particularly valued by the distillery team, and offers a new interpretation of this favourite. The 16-year-old Island single malt matured in ex-bourbon casks and selected Oloroso sherry casks. This combination brings out both the bright fruit and the nutty, gently coastal side of the spirit.
Stone fruit, dried citrus fruit and wildflower honey form the core. Toasted walnut, salted toffee and oak spice provide structure, while a subtle maritime note recalls the whisky’s island origins. The finish is long and warming. At 46.5%, with natural colour and no chill filtration, the edition retains its expressive character. The presentation is also part of the concept: each bottle bears an individual design.
Tasting Notes:
- Nose: On the nose, stone fruit and dried citrus fruit combine with toasted walnut and salted toffee. A delicate coastal note accompanies these aromas. Peach and apricot are complemented by dried orange peel, a trace of sea salt, vanilla fudge and toasted nuts.
- Palate: On the palate, white peach, wildflower honey and citrus oil meet nuances of cassia cinnamon and cocoa nibs. Soft stone-fruit notes and blossom honey lead the opening. They are joined by lively citrus peel, oak spice and a hint of dark chocolate.
- Finish: In the finish, toasted walnuts combine with salted caramel. Toasted oak and cinnamon complement the nutty, sweet aftertaste.
Distillery/Bottler:
Jura Distillery is located in Craighouse on the east coast of the remote Hebridean island of Jura. Originally founded in 1810, it was rebuilt after its closure in 1901 and reopened in 1963. This brought jobs back to the small island community. The distillery and brand have belonged to Whyte & Mackay since 1994. Jura produces the whisky for Perspective No. 1, which is an official distillery bottling.
During the rebuilding, William Delme-Evans designed the exceptionally tall copper stills that continue to shape the house style today. Their height and broad shape increase copper contact during distillation and support the fruity, aromatic character of the new-make spirit. Production water comes from Market Loch, which is fed by rain and meltwater from the Paps of Jura. When selecting casks, the distillery aims to bring out the qualities of this spirit.
