Kavalan Master's Select Reserve No. 2 was introduced in April 2024 as an exclusive bottling for global travel retail. Bottled at 40% in a 1-litre format, it combines whisky from port barriques with lightly peated whisky matured in STR casks. Dark port fruit takes centre stage, while delicate smoke adds further structure to the profile.

Longan and red date create an almost tea-like opening, deepened by nutty woody spice, grape, dark berries, cherry, plum and red apple. Earthy smoke, citrus peel and pastry balance the fruity sweetness. Mango, light-coloured stone fruit and a creamy texture lead into vanilla, honey, orange and oak spice, accompanied by subtle peat smoke.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, longan, red date, grape, dark berries, cherry, plum and red apple combine with nutty woody spice and delicate smoke.
• Palate: The palate is creamy and fruit-forward, with mango, light-coloured stone fruit, caramel and vanilla; citrus peel, pastry and earthy peat lend definition.
• Finish: The finish is long and elegant, combining honey, vanilla, orange and oak spice with cleanly integrated peat smoke.

Distillery/Bottler:

Kavalan Distillery in Yilan produces the whisky and releases it as a distillery bottling. Backed by the King Car Group, the distillery has been developing Taiwanese single malt there since 2005. The intense heat and humidity accelerate the interaction between whisky and cask, while meltwater from Snow Mountain and breezes from the sea and mountains further shape the local maturation conditions. In Reserve No. 2, this rapid maturation supports the concentrated interplay of port fruit, wood and a lightly peated character.
