Kavalan Peatist Ex Bourbon Cask is a Taiwanese single malt made from peated malt, matured in a single American ex-bourbon cask and released as an official bottling at 54%. Vanilla and coconut provide the cask’s lighter influence, while mango and banana bring tropical fruit together with a finely balanced note of peat smoke.

Honey, spicy oak and cocoa complement the interplay of fruit, sweetness and smoke. The whisky retains its natural colour and is not chill-filtered, allowing its texture and cask character to remain as unaltered as possible.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Subtle peat smoke opens the nose, leaving room for mango, banana and aromatic longan. Coconut cream, vanilla and honey provide gentle sweetness.
• Palate: On the palate, creamy vanilla, vanilla cake, coconut and mango combine with warm oak, peaty spice and cocoa.
• Finish: The finish is long, with lingering vanilla, persistent peat smoke and dark cocoa.

Distillery/Bottler:

Kavalan Distillery makes the whisky in Yilan and bottles it as an official bottling. It matures there in the warm, humid conditions of the subtropical climate. Located around an hour’s drive south-east of Taipei, the distillery uses spring water from the Xue-Shan Mountains and belongs to the family-owned King Car Group.

The distillery was completed in 2005, its own new make spirit first flowed in 2006, and the first Kavalan Single Malt was released in 2008. Kavalan Peatist Ex Bourbon Cask combines this Taiwanese production with peated malt and the vanilla, coconut and oak influence of an American bourbon cask.
