This Kavalan Solist release comes from single cask W170210018C. The whisky was distilled on 10 February 2017 and bottled from this cask on 21 August 2024 at 58.6%. The cask yielded 159 bottles for La Maison du Whisky. The single malt was bottled at natural colour and without chill filtration.

For Solist Vinho Barrique, Kavalan uses American oak casks that previously held red or white wine. Before they are filled with whisky, their interiors are planed, toasted and re-charred. In this single-cask release, ripe grapes and tropical fruit meet vanilla, honey, flowers and spices; the long finish combines minerality with dark berries, nuts and fine wood. Caramelised sugar and dark chocolate complete the sensory profile of the Vinho Barrique range.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose opens with ripe grapes, cinnamon and cloves. Heather honey and bourbon vanilla accompany mango, passion fruit and guava.
• Palate: The whisky is full-bodied and concentrated on the palate. Wilted rose petals and peony form a floral core framed by the spice of grated ginger and black pepper.
• Finish: The long finish is mineral and recalls slate and pencil lead. Blackberries and blackcurrants then emerge alongside walnuts, almonds, fine wood and vanilla.

Distillery/Bottler:

Kavalan Distillery has been producing single malt whisky in Yilan County in north-eastern Taiwan since 2005 and belongs to the King Car Group. High temperatures and pronounced humidity influence cask maturation there and encourage intense interaction between the whisky and the wood.

The whisky from cask W170210018C was produced by Kavalan and bottled as an official distillery release for La Maison du Whisky.
