Special features: The Kilkerran Heavily Peated Batch No. 13 (2025) is a limited release from the Glengyle Distillery in Campbeltown, Scotland. This heavily peated single malt whisky matured 90% in former bourbon casks and 10% in former sherry casks. It was bottled at cask strength with 58.4% ABV, not chill-filtered and not colored – entirely in the artisanal style of the Springbank distilleries.
Tasting Notes:
- Nose: Creamy butterscotch and caramel notes form the opening, followed by hints of rye bread and tea leaves.
- Palate: Accompanied by notes of Iberico ham and brandy snaps, a familiar oiliness and smokiness come to the forefront.
- Finish: The finish is smooth and reminiscent of lemon soda, honeycomb, and mint. The peat smoke remains present until the end.
Distillery/Bottler: The Glengyle Distillery, founded in 1872, is the third still active distillery in Campbeltown alongside Springbank and Glen Scotia. After its reopening in 2004, it produces single malt whiskies under the name Kilkerran.
