Special Features:

Two different cask finishes shape this single malt: after maturing in bourbon casks, the whiskey was divided between Killowen's own dark rum casks and PX sherry casks. The separately finished whiskeys were then married.

The first batch of Signature Rum & Raisin carries a five-year age statement and comprises 660 numbered bottles. The whiskey was bottled at 55%, without chill filtration or added colouring.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose reveals candied pineapple, peach and fruit sweets. Desiccated coconut, plenty of vanilla and nougat accompany ripe red apples, marzipan and prunes.
• Palate: On the palate, the flavours recall bananas flambéed in rum, along with coconut and vanilla ice cream. The mouthfeel is creamy and syrupy. Brown sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg meet macadamia and Brazil nuts. Delicate, sweet raisin notes emerge towards the end, while the alcohol remains slightly noticeable.
• Finish: The rather short finish leaves alcoholic warmth and notes of crème brûlée and cinnamon pastries.

Distillery/Bottler:

Killowen is located in the Mourne Mountains in County Down, Northern Ireland. Founder and master distiller Brendan Carty explores historic grain recipes and Irish distilling traditions. Alongside sourced whiskeys that undergo further maturation, the distillery also offers whiskey distilled in-house under the name Barántúil.

The single malt for Batch 1 comes from stocks at Cooley Distillery. Located on the Cooley Peninsula in County Louth, the distillery was opened by John Teeling in 1987. He had a former state-owned potato distillery converted into a whiskey distillery for this purpose. Killowen handled the cask finishing and bottling of this edition.
