Fresh ginger and citrus oil define The King's Ginger. The current recipe contains more ginger than its predecessor, combining its spicy warmth with a gentler alcohol content of 29.9%. This golden-yellow liqueur can be enjoyed neat, in cocktails or as an ingredient in hot chocolate and warm apple cider.

The bottle's shape recalls King Edward VII's saddle flask, while the steering-wheel motif on the wooden stopper evokes his Daimler. The bottle is fully recyclable. The revised version of the liqueur won a gold medal at the 2021 San Francisco World Spirits Competition.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Fresh ginger leads the nose. A delicate lemon note accompanies the spicy root.
• Palate: On the palate, the liqueur opens with the sweetness of ginger syrup. This is followed by the tingle of fresh ginger and subtle lemon freshness, creating a warming, full-bodied impression.
• Finish: Spicy ginger and pleasant sweetness linger through the long, warm, full-bodied finish.

Distillery/Bottler:

The King's Ginger comes from London wine and spirits merchant Berry Bros. & Rudd. Its history began in 1698, when its founder, known as Widow Bourne, opened a grocery shop on St James's Street. Its early wares included tea, coffee, tobacco and cocoa.

In 1903, the royal physician commissioned Berry Bros. & Rudd to create a liqueur for Edward VII. The king drove his Daimler even in poor weather, and a warming drink was wanted for these outings. This led to The King's Ginger, whose current recipe continues that combination of ginger and citrus.
