Special Features:

Kyrö Wood Smoke is made entirely from malted Finnish wholegrain rye. Following Nordic tradition, the malt is dried over alder wood smoke in a Riihi barn around a hundred years old. This gives the whisky its wood-smoke character rather than using peat.

After double distillation in pot stills, the whisky matures in former bourbon casks, French oak and new American white oak casks. Pronounced pepper notes and alder wood smoke combine with the sweetness of vanilla and caramel, while rye bread, honey and oak round out the flavour profile. The whisky is bottled at 47.2% alcohol.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, vanilla, caramel and pepper meet sweet smoke and notes of tar.
• Palate: The palate reveals pronounced smoke, accompanied by lightly sweet rye bread, honey and oak.
• Finish: Wood, spice and smoke shape a long finish with warmth and a slight dryness.

Distillery/Bottler:

Kyrö Distillery Company produces this malt rye whisky in Isokyrö under the Kyrö brand. The five founders came up with the idea in a sauna in 2012 and began distilling in a former dairy in 2014. Finnish wholegrain rye is central to their work: although the grain is demanding to process, it forms the basis of Kyrö's spirits. The historic Riihi barn connects the production of smoked rye malt with local tradition.
