La Escondida Sotol Blanco is made from Dasylirion, a desert plant native to northern Mexico. Made from 100% Dasylirion, it is produced and bottled in Chihuahua. Its production includes double distillation, resulting in a clear Sotol Artesanal at 40% alcohol.

Alongside its herbal and mineral character, this sotol reveals slightly sweet, grassy, green and earthy impressions. It can be enjoyed neat or used as a base for cocktails. The 0.7-litre bottle with its red mermaid design comes in gift packaging.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Fresh herbs emerge on the nose, accompanied by hints of mint, eucalyptus and subtle smoke.
• Palate: The sotol is dry and mineral on the palate. White pepper and citrus notes are complemented by a subtle earthy touch.
• Finish: The long finish leaves lightly spicy and herbal notes.

Distillery/Bottler:

Grand Mezcal, founded by Dario Sanabria, is the company behind La Escondida. The brand began with mezcal from Oaxaca, and its name honours the women who continued producing and selling it during historical prohibitions. La Escondida means “the hidden woman”. The brand's imagery also draws on the legend of a princess who escaped and was later said to have been seen as a mermaid in the Pacific.

The sotol, by contrast, takes us to Chihuahua in northern Mexico, where Dasylirion is used instead of agave. Grand Mezcal S.A. de C.V. is responsible for marketing this bottling. Through a story about the Rarámuri, its packaging also draws on the cultural traditions of northern Mexico.
