Langs Banana combines unaged Jamaican rums with rums matured in former bourbon casks made from American white oak. Its base consists of molasses rums distilled in pot stills and continuously operating column stills. In Scotland, the blend is enhanced with natural banana flavouring and bottled.

Alongside ripe banana, there are hints of toffee as well as tropical fruit and earthy notes. This character, known as Jamaican funk, remains recognisable alongside the fruit flavouring. Langs Banana can be enjoyed neat or over ice and also works with cola, ginger beer or in a Banana Daiquiri.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose recalls warm banana bread, ripe bananas and brown sugar. Banana foam sweets, chocolate-lime sweets, cola sweets and candyfloss add further notes. Cinnamon and vanilla provide subtle accents.
• Palate: On the palate, the spirit is syrupy, with a distinctly sweet banana flavour. The rum flavour becomes increasingly prominent.
• Finish: On the finish, the initially pronounced banana fades but remains perceptible. Soft rum notes gain prominence and lead into a fruity aftertaste.

Distillery/Bottler:

Langs traces its origins to Glasgow wine and spirits merchants Gavin and Alexander Lang. In the 1860s, they expanded their whisky business to include rum, drawing inspiration from the Caribbean fruits and spirits arriving at the Clyde docks. The original Banana Rum was introduced in 1861. The gold medal on today's bottle commemorates the award won by the historical recipe at the Edinburgh International Exhibition in 1886.

Today, Langs belongs to Ian Macleod Distillers Limited. Lang Brothers Ltd. in Glasgow finishes and bottles the spirit made from imported Jamaican rum. The brand thus connects its Glasgow trading heritage with a rum base from Jamaica.
