Special Features:

For its twelfth Artist edition, La Maison du Whisky selected this Ledaig, distilled in 2005, from cask 900037. The whisky matured for more than 15 years in a previously used sherry butt and was bottled at cask strength in 2022 at 64.8%. This single-cask release comprises 456 bottles of 0.7 litres each. It is not chill-filtered, contains no added colouring and comes in gift packaging.

Dry, rooty peat is the starting point for fruit and floral notes. Salt, medicinal hints and smoke become more prominent on the palate; in the long finish, the peat turns earthier alongside floral and spicy impressions. Chocolate notes accompany these shifts.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose opens with dense, fairly dry, rooty peat alongside brandy-soaked cherry and apricot. With air, lily, freesia, mango, persimmon and chocolate emerge.
• Palate: On the lively palate, the peat becomes increasingly chocolatey and salty. Arnica, camphor, bacon, sandalwood and a hearth fire follow; raspberry and lemon add fruity accents towards the end.
• Finish: The long finish begins with slightly damp earth, poppy blossoms, cornflower and violet. The peat then softens and joins liquorice and fine pepper before curry and ylang-ylang appear. More pronounced peat and sweet, ripe apricot linger; the empty glass reveals cardamom, saffron and ginger.

Distillery/Bottler:

Founded in 1798, Tobermory Distillery is located on the Isle of Mull and makes two distinct single malts: unpeated Tobermory and peated Ledaig. The distillery uses water from the Gearr Abhainn stream for both. Ledaig is now part of the CVH Spirits brand portfolio.

La Maison du Whisky selects individual casks for its Artist series and pairs the releases with specially designed labels. The twelfth edition features works by artist Gesine Arps and includes this Ledaig from cask 900037.
