Special Features:

This Linkwood from the Connoisseurs Choice Upper range matured for 30 years in a single first-fill Sherry Puncheon. Distilled in 1993, the whisky comes from cask 6184. Gordon & MacPhail bottled it on 10 April 2024 as batch 24/023 at its cask strength of 49.2%. The single-cask release comprises 531 bottles.

The whisky is not chill-filtered and contains no added colouring. It comes in a 0.7-litre bottle presented in a premium box.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Bold orange peel emerges first on the nose, followed by hazelnut and cinnamon. Raisins and vanilla fudge lead into toasted oak.
• Palate: On the palate, smooth stewed fruit combines with toffee made from dark sugar syrup and notes of apple. Raspberry compote emerges alongside gentle anise.
• Finish: The medium-bodied finish leaves a lingering note of Morello cherry.

Distillery/Bottler:

The history of Linkwood Distillery near Elgin in Speyside dates back to the 1820s and is associated with Peter Brown. In the early 1970s, a second distillery was added opposite the original site; the older site ceased regular production in 1985. Linkwood uses clear wort, long fermentation and slow distillation with extensive copper contact.

Gordon & MacPhail is the independent bottler of this Linkwood. George Urquhart established Connoisseurs Choice in the 1960s to give selected single malts a place of their own in a market then dominated by blends. The range now also includes cask-strength releases.
