Volume: 0.7 litres | Alcohol content: 44.5% | Chill filtration: No | Colouring: No
Special Features:
This Batch 3 release from the Cask Craft Collection combines Linkwood’s light, sweet Speyside single malt with a finish in Pedro Ximénez and Oloroso sherry casks from Jerez. Murray McDavid bottles the whisky at 44.5%, balancing the distillery style with the influence of the two types of sherry cask.
Sweet malt, citrus and a nutty nuance define the underlying character. The sherry casks contribute praline, orange, spices and rich caramel. These elements develop into a combination of fruitcake, sticky toffee and apple, followed by a gentle finish with sweet oak spice.
The bottle contains 0.7 litres. The single malt has no added colouring and is non-chill-filtered.
Tasting Notes:
- Nose: The nose reveals fruitcake, sticky toffee and apple.
- Palate: Fruitcake, sticky toffee and apple continue on the palate.
- Finish: The finish is gentle and shaped by sweet oak spice.
Distillery/Bottler:
Linkwood Distillery was founded by Peter Brown in 1825 and was initially conceived as an extension of his farm. A large proportion of Linkwood’s malt is used for blended Scotch, so standalone single malt bottlings are comparatively rare.
Murray McDavid selected PX and Oloroso sherry casks from Jerez for this Batch 3 bottling and released the Linkwood single malt as a Cask Craft Sherry Finish. The independent bottler is based at the disused Coleburn Distillery in Speyside, where it uses Victorian dunnage warehouses to mature and care for selected casks.
